THE COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE, CHIPLIMA
The College of Agriculture, OUAT, Chiplima, the esteemed institution has been serving the state of Odisha and the nation for more than three decades. The College started functioning from 24th October 1981. It is located at Chiplima (20.210N, 80.550E and 155m above M.S.L) a place situated at a distance of 35 km from the district headquarter of Sambalpur. It was established as a second constituent College of Agriculture under Odisha University of Agriculture & Technology, Bhubaneswar. Initially the college started in the campus of then Regional Research Station, Chiplima with an intake capacity of 48 students per year for four years B.Sc.(Ag) degree course. The college was shifted to its own building in September 1985. The college continued to impart education only for boys till 2003, however, with the creation of accommodation facilities for girls, it became a co-educational institution since 2004. Presently, adequate accommodation facility is available for all the students in two boys and three girls hostels in the campus.
Presently, the college is strengthened by 13 Faculties/Assistant Professors/professors and 25 non-teaching staffs. In addition to above teaching faculty members and the faculty members of College of Horticulture, the scientists from RRTTS, Chiplima, KVK, Sambalpur, KVK, Baragarh, teachers from OUAT headquarters and guest faculty members from Sambalpur University, Jyoti Vihar, Burla are also involved in teaching and other allied activities of the college. New course curricula have been started since 2007-08 with the inclusion of Rural Agricultural Work Experience (RAWE) programme in 7th Semester of B.Sc.(Ag). The students have good exposure to agricultural technologies through the conduct of practical in which they learn such techniques by raising field crops, vegetable crops, ornamental crops, preservation techniques, methods of propagation, mushroom cultivation, etc. The college has developed a well equipped computer laboratory modernized by LCD projectors, audio-visual aids and multi-media systems for effective teaching. Internet facility is available for the students, teachers and staffs of the college. The College Library is air-conditioned and houses about 5000 books, 15 subscribed journals, 56 educational CDs and other reference study materials with a good physical facility for studying. Besides academic excellence, every year students participate in Inter-University sports and cultural event competitions and bring glory to the institution. The institute makes conscious efforts to encourage the students to take part in sports, music, debate, yoga, spiritual discourse and cultural activities for overall personality development.
Majority of our students pursue their Post-Graduation and Doctoral programmes through all India entrance examinatios in top institutions of the country like Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi; Indian Agricultural Statistics Research Institute, New Delhi; Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture & Technology, Pantnagar; Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi; University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore; Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana; Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore and management studies in IIMs; MANAGE, Hyderabad; IRMA, Anand; XIMB, Bhubaneswar, etc. The students of this College are known for their professional excellence as Scientists and Teachers in ICAR institutions.
